Finding the Sex Therapist for you
“When we liberate ourselves from the expectation that we must have to have all things figured out, we enter a sanctuary of empathy.” -Sonya Renee Taylor
When it comes to sex and intimacy, finding an ideal therapist can be an especially delicate process. Such topics are sensitive and vulnerable, requiring a space where you feel heard, validated, accepted, and safe. Safety is an experience that is unique from person to person and it’s important that you work with a therapist with whom you trust and feel secure. I share with each of my clients that trust is not given - trust is earned over time; together we will work to build a trusting and secure therapeutic relationship.
Goals I will support you with include strengthening intimate relationships, deepening connection, exploring sexual identity, orientation, and gender, enhancing your sex life with eroticism and passion, addressing sexual/pelvic pain, discomfort, or trauma, and/or exploring multiple relationships/polyam/non-monogamy and BDSM/kink. Finding a therapist who can provide strategies with grace and care is paramount.
Sex Therapy with Mia
Holistic and Trauma-Informed Couples Counseling and Sex Therapy in Seattle
I approach sexual health concerns in a holistic and trauma-informed way. A holistic approach includes addressing the biological, social, sexual, spiritual, and psychological makeup of a person. As a trauma therapist, I am Certified in EMDR which is an empirical therapeutic modality that helps people heal from past trauma. I also utilize Polyvagal Theory and somatics in our work together. My style is direct yet compassionate, Humanistic yet client-centered, resource-oriented yet explorative.
My clients often name feeling my passion for this work in our space together. There is no other career I would choose than being a therapist.
I offer Marathon Therapy (also known as Intensives) which is a unique form of therapy that originates from the founders of Marriage and Family Therapists from the Milan School of MFT. Within this model, we have the opportunity to dive deeply into your life story exploring unhealthy cycles, challenging patterns, trauma histories, experiences of pleasure/joy, and areas of stuckness. Our sessions are intense but enjoyable (I love to bring humor into the room!) and you will leave the intensive with an extensive list of evidence-based resources and effective interventions. If 50-60 minute weekly therapy sessions barely scratch the surface for you, Marathon Therapy may be an excellent fit.
As a member of the queer community, I tend to work well with the wide and beautiful spectrums of genders, identities, and relational systems. Sexuality is fluid and YOU are the expert of your identity. If you identify as kinky, polyam, gender-expansive, or Queer, you are welcome here!
No matter how loving a relationship may be, couples sometimes lose their intimate connection, eroticism, attraction, and sexual interest. A primary focus and joy of my therapeutic practice is couples therapy (relationship therapy). Together we work to cultivate eroticism, attachment, pleasure, and play as you design the relationship you desire. If your intimate relationship is struggling, I would be happy to help you find the joy and connection you once experienced - or perhaps you’ll co-create a relationship that thrives more than ever before.
Sexual pain/discomfort, interest/arousal/desire/orgasm concerns, perinatal support, and pelvic floor health are other focuses of my practice. Genito-pelvic pain (vaginismus, dyspareunia), erectile disappointment, and additional sexual health concerns are other therapeutic areas in which I am passionate. If you are a person experiencing sexual health concerns, please know that you are not broken - you are whole.
